How to repair Outlook folders by Inbox Repair Tool?
When corrupted, PST file is automatically fixed by Outlook when you start the application. A start window displays that Outlook is trying to repair your folders. However, if the extent of damage is high, this initial repair may fail and you may not be able to start Outlook. These are the situations when you need to fix PST file corruption using Outlook's repair tool.
Using Inbox Repair Tool
To Repair Outlook Inbox and rest of the folders, you need to access an executable program file called Scanpst.exe with its default location as <disk drive>:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12 in Outlook 2007 and C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 in earlier versions. If you cannot locate this tool at the expected location, you can find it with the file search option of Windows. Once the file is located, follow the steps mentioned below:
- Make sure that Outlook is closed before you start the tool
- Double-click the Scanpst.exe file to launch the tool
- Browse to the location of your PST file
- Click 'Start' to start the file scanning
- Once scanning finishes, you see a notification box. Mark the checkbox for creating the backup of scanned file
- Click 'Repair' to repair the corrupted PST.
Note: Inbox Repair Tool has less chances of repairing the PST if it has been damaged by third-party add-ins and by similar causes. If you cannot recover your folders by this tool, it is suggested to opt for a powerful third-party PST repair utility, such as Stellar's Outlook Inbox Repair Tool.
