Explaining the sequence of events that led to the arrest, A.John Rose, Assistant Commissioner of Police, CCB, said: “Two suspicious looking men were spotted late on Sunday night outside a Canara Bank ATM on Reddy Kuppam Road, West Mambalam. As the police had already warned bank officials to be extra cautious in light of a series of credit card scams that have been unearthed, security was tight at the ATM and the men were spotted.”

Security personnel chased the men, but the duo managed to flee.

Cloned credit cards

It was later discovered that they had dropped a bag on the road. It contained 60 cloned credit cards that held the account information of bank customers. There was also a Sri Lankan and an Indian passport.

Police tracked down the passport to an address in K.K.Nagar, Tiruchi, where the two men – Janagan (29), a computer mechanic and Suresh (28), a painter – were arrested. Two laptops containing bank account details and two cell phones were seized from them. Mr.Rose said the police suspected the two men to be just ‘runners' and a search is on for four more Sri Lankan nationals.
