How should one prioritize?
Often employees are stuck between multiple tasks and completing them seems like climbing the Everest. No matter how well you manage time, some things are always left to be done. In such a scenario, one should learn the art of prioritizing.
Prioritizing begins with compiling all the tasks in one sheet of paper so that you know what all needs to be done and you do not omit any task at the end of the day. Numbering the points on the list helps you differentiate between the most important and least important task. The task that needs to be completed today is placed at the peak.
Another reason for placing a task on the top could be the value attached with it. A high value deal needs to be evaluated first as delaying it can cost the company tremendously. Sometimes all the tasks on the sheet appear important but after close analysis one can find out the difference between more important and most important.
If a particular work can hamper tomorrow’s assignment then that work should be taken care of today itself. Prioritizing becomes easy if you take into consideration the future consequences. If the meeting is scheduled for next week then the work can be procrastinated and for the meeting this week, early completion is obligatory.
Being organized can solve half of your problem as you do not waste time in looking for misplaced things and what is conspicuous to you always lies in front of your eyes.
The two terms that can put some work on the top position are ‘Promotion’ and ‘Expel.’ Any work that can aggrandize your promotion is crucial. And if not completing a particular task can get you fired, then accomplishing it becomes superlative.
When you have too many things to do, benevolence should be kept aside. One should not accept new responsibilities before consummating prior commitments. Help others when you have free time in hand but when you are burdened with work, it will be absurd to assist others.
Make sue the list has only the things required. Enlisting even the smaller details can make it look lengthy and tedious hence include the items that need to be prioritized.
Disseminate your duties if you cannot do it single-handedly. This will not only help in quick completion of the task but will also help culminate the stress. Scrutinize your list once you are done with it to check if you have missed something.
