Know your Rights

There are certain obligations towards its employees that a company has to fulfill. The contract labour (regulation and abolition act) 1970 envelopes all the rights relating to employment. For example; an employee cannot be dismissed or deported from his position based on prejudices. Unless and until there is an appropriate and fair reason, the employee cannot be fired.

An employee can be a part of any union. A trade or labour union can be defined as a group of people who come together for a common mission or have a common interest at hand. The employee has the right to incline towards or away from this union. In additional to this an employee can demand his wage on the designated time and should be granted his salary depending on the work he/she does.

The employee can demand leave in case of an emergency or sickness or annual furlough but the company can decide whether it will be a pay leave or a leave without pay. Also if you work for more hours than specified in your contract, the company will decide whether to pay you more or not. However it is you right to work according to what is on the blueprint hence if you wish to leave on time and not work extra hours, your wish should be granted.

Every employee should be familiar with his rights but at same time should comply with his duties. To contribute in entirety for the growth of your company, to not disclose the companies confidential materials, to follow the dress code and the code of conduct put forward by the higher authority, to be punctual, to not harass or annoy your colleagues are some of the duties that you have to abide by.
