The point of Reference

The suitability of a candidature is confirmed with the help of reference letter and contact. When companies seek to verify an employee’s background, reference checks are executed. The employee presents few names with their resume so that the current employer can find out the capabilities of the employee from an acknowledged individual.

The two methods of referencing are either by presenting a reference letter or by mentioning contact numbers of distinguished individuals. The contact numbers are more favorable as the letter can be a counterfeit and brimming with skills not known to the employee.

References can be professional reference or character reference. A professional recommendation is given by your team leader or co-employers at the previous organization. A character reference can be given by your teacher or mentor.

The references highlight ones key skills and achievements. How did one help in the companies augmentation? What special artistry does the employee posses? The level of dedication, knowledge of the process, etc. can be judged via referencing.

Your ex-coach can be contacted when you are a fresher and your academic background needs to be scrutinized. How aggressive and efficacious was the student in their institution? What skills other than erudite does the student possess? The relations that the student established with his/her senior or teachers, etc, can be gauged by reference checks.

Before mentioning the references, it is the duty of the job-seeker to inform the person concerned. Chances are that the person may not recollect you when the call is made or feel offended for distributing their number amongst companies. Usually the person feels obliged for recommending their name in your CV and is willing to help hence it is required that the person is well acquainted with your declaration.

After procuring the job, it is impervious to express your gratitude to the references as they have helped you climb a ladder in your career. References give you an added advantage and hence it is advisable to be prepared with it when asked for.
