Dress for Success
Your attire portrays what you are hence it matters to present your best self when at work. There are some offices where following a dress code is not obligatory especially when you are working in the entertainment industry. Your dress code should be according to your work environment.
When you go for an interview in casual clothes, it depicts your casual attitude. The interviewer is looking for someone who can work with seriousness and dedication and the apparel is the first sign which gives the indication whether you’re determined or not. Dressing shabbily or inappropriately is displeasing and I have come across people who reject candidates just because his/her shirt is not ironed.
In the conservative corporate environment, appearance does matter but in some other industry it may not. Wearing formal clothes does imbibe a sense of discipline within individuals. Well combed hair, ironed and decently fitted clothes, formal footwear and accessories are essential when you are working.
But that doesn’t mean that you rest all your efforts only to your apparel. Only dressing well is not the route to ascedancy, it is your performance. Dressing perfectly does not guarantee success but it gives you a competitive edge and creates a good impression. You do not need to spend overtly in order to look good. Wear clothes within your budget but in accordance with the company dress code.
Judging a person on the basis of attire may not seem correct to some but we cannot deny that it does matter especially when you are going for an interview. Ask the superior or the Human Resource department regarding the organizations dress code well in advance rather than dressing inappropriately and becoming an object of ridicule.
