Success doesn’t come to you, you go to it!

The success of an organization depends on various factors. An idea may click with one organization while the same idea may not with some other organization. Hence there is no specific way of running an organization as explained by the Contingency Theory.

The same type of product is manufactured by different companies but there is always this one company that leads, that has a major share in the market and that is a preferred option for the masses. Even if you follow the same procedure that the leading company does, you may not succeed. The ingredients for success may vary. A retail shop in the suburbs will get maximum customers but the same shop in a different location may rarely get customer visits.

A standard technique does not exist for ascendancy. Being friendly with your employees can work in a particular field and being stringent may work elsewhere. The usage of new innovative technology to run your organization may lead to a swift functioning, the resources that you posses can keep your customers happy, the idea you suggest could be worth a million dollar, your efficient employees can transform your company’s future. The reasons are several and a combination of any of these can do the needful.

What the situation demands from you should be fulfilled because the contingency theory says the optimal course of action is contingent (dependent) upon internal and external situation. Imprinting what others do is not the key; being shrewd enough to select the perfect ingredients depending on the circumstances is indispensable. New techniques have to be devised until the right one is banked upon just like the quote goes, ‘Success is a journey, not a destination’.
