Low cost netPCs may speed up SAAS penetration in INDIA
Today, I have read an article @ business standard on Bharti Airtel's netPC
''Low-cost computing and broadband penetration in the country is expected to get an added boost, with India’s largest telecom operator, Bharti Airtel, launching a low-cost online computer powered by Microsoft and Nivio. The Airtel Net PC is a plug-and-play online computer, inclusive of a 15-inch LCD monitor, keyboard, mouse and Nivio companion ..."
I have performed a quick search in Google and find another company providing Internet PC - Nova netPC. Chennai based Novatium has already rolled out netPC service with BSNL. Even though CD drive is not available, USB CD drive can be used. According to their website, they have tie up with many software providers and will assist the user to acquire genuine software at the best possible rate
I would say this is going to revolutionize PC penetration in India. More individuals and small business users can make use of this service. Home users may find this for dual purpose – for computing as well as TV. How many of us install applications in Office PC or play a CD? It is not quite usual and as far as business PC is concerned, prime requirements would be mail, office suit, internet and necessary business software. Getting operating system and security services at the cost of Broadband Internet is certainly a major advantage.
Many other Broadband service providers are there or might be planning to launch similar services
Approximate prices excluding internet charges would be Rs.9000 including installation and monitor. This price may come down once market picks up
This is going to boost SAAS (Software as Service) business too
Let's say owner of a Business class hotel with 50 people wanted to automate payroll software but his budget is not sufficient to acquire IT infrastructure PC/ Server/ Networking and Desktop Payroll Software, AMC etc.
In this context, let's check for another attractive option with in his budget.
Buy 2 netPC units : Rs. 18000 [one time]
Internet charges : Rs.275 x 2 [per month]
Buy Payroll from Greytip Online : 50 x Rs. 40 [per month]
With a one time investment of Rs.18000 and Monthly investment of Rs.2550, internet can be enabled, basic office operations can be computerized and entire Payroll process can be automated.
Tomorrow if the proprietor wanted to automate entire sales process in the hotel, proprietor can approach a Point of Sale SAAS provider and accomplish that too without huge infrastructure investments.
This sounds great, right?
