Exporters not getting adequate attention, say FIEO

Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) recently expressed resentment over the indifference shown by the Indian government when it comes to allocation of fund to Export units.

Exporters are not getting adequate attention and the funds assigned to the sector under different schemes are not adequate, informed President A. Sakthivel Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO).

He further informed that funds allocated under the Market Access Initiative (MAI), were not sufficient for exporters.

The exporters' association also expressed interest for extension of the National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (NREGs) to the export sector.

The National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme (NREGS) should cover the export sector. This will guarantee 300 days of employment,” said the FIEO chief.

Sakthivel also informed that employment-oriented exporting sectors like leather, handicrafts and leather should impart the basic training to labourers.

He further added, NREG scheme is costing the exchequer Rs 40,100 crore but it is not benefiting the labourers on the contrary it is making the laborers lazy.

With export sector steadily recovering since November 2009, exporters' manpower requirements are slowly showing an upward spiral. Sufficient labour for the low-end jobs is not available.

On account of global slump, exports declined for 13 months at a trot. However since November the exports are bouncing back.
