Ten methods to get printer to print again
What should we do if the printer can’t print the document when we command it through Windows programs? Here, we take HP printer as example to fix the issue. Hope these methods can help you solve printing problems timely in the future. ;)
1. Set the printer online
If the printer is not online, we can not print the document naturally.
2. Restart the printer
If the printer is online but still can not print the document, we can re-start the printer to clear the printer memory also to solve some other printing issue.
3. Set the printer as the default printer
Do as the following steps:
1). Click the Windows "Start" menu, then "Settings", click "Printers" to open the "Printers" window.
2). Right-click the printer icon, the system pops-up a shortcut menu, click "Make Default."
4. Cancel pause printing.
How to: On “printer” windows, right-click the printer icon and then click to clear the “pause printing” option before the "√" mark.
5. Make the available space on the hard drive no less than 10MB.
If the available hard drive disc space is less than 10MB, we must free up more space in the system to complete the printing job. Then, click "Disk Cleanup" button and choose "the files to be deleted" in the list box, select the file type you want to delete, click "OK" button.
6.Add the printer timeout setting.
Check or change the timeout setting as the following steps:
1). In the "Printers" window, right-click the printer icon, then click "Properties."
2). Click the "Details" tab, add each with timeout setting under the "timeout setting". "Not selected" items means time windows has to wait for the printer to be online, error message will display when it is out of specified time.
7. Make sure to print to the appropriate local printer port.
As the following steps:
1). In the “Printer” windows, right-click the printer icon and then click "Properties."
2 Click the "Details" tab, make sure the printer is set to the appropriate port in the "Print to the following port" box. The most commonly used port is "LPT1" and USB port is also a common one.
8. The program generates incorrect output.
To ensure the procedure generates the correct output, we can validate by using other program to print the document. We take “Notepad” to print a test document as follows:
1). Click "Start", point to "Programs"-"Accessories", click "Notepad" to open "Notepad" window.
2). Type a few lines of text, and then click "Print" command in the "File" menu.
if you can not print the test document, the procedure you use to print should be wrong so you have to reinstall the procedure .
9. Re-install the HP printer drivers.
Sometimes, the HP printer drivers may be damaged and cause errors in printing document. We can re-install the appropriate hp driver for printer and then print.
1). In the "Printers" window, right-click the printer icon and click "Delete", then click "Yes" button. If the system prompts "Delete the special file of this printer", click "Yes" button. If the system prompts “delete the default printer”, click "OK" button.
2). In the "Printers" window, double-click the "Add Printer" icon, open the "Add Printer Wizard", click "Next" button, and then execute on-screen instructions.
10. Make sure that the printer port and cable work properly.
After reinstall the printer driver, the following method should help you further find the problems.
1). Make sure the printer cable is securely connected to computer directly.
2). Connect the printer to other usable port, retry to print the document, if this works, the previous port is damaged.
3). Change the printer cable to another one and retry printing, if this works, the previous cable should be damaged.
