What is the Botox process?

Botox is an extremely popular non-surgical treatment enjoyed by both men and women alike. Botox is a prescription medication that is injected into the muscles, generally between the brows, to treat the unforgiving “11’s”, or frown lines, we develop as we age. BOTOX works by blocking the nerve impulses to the injected muscles, thereby temporarily reducing the muscle activity and decreasing the moderate to severe frown lines.

Botox injections are performed by Plastic Surgeon Manhattan Beach, Dr. Youssef himself. It is a relatively quick procedure with no downtime. Dr. Youssef generally uses a cold pack to minimize discomfort, pain, and bruising. In some cases, numbing cream may also be applied. Patients are able to go back to normal activity after the treatment but are recommended to not lie down for 4 hours and not to work out for the first 24 hours. However, makeup may be applied shortly after the treatment.

Botox South Bay with Dr. Youssef takes approximately 7-10 days to fully take effect; however, some patients begin to see results within a few days after the treatment. The results of this treatment can last up to 4 months, but may vary from patient to patient. If the administration of the Botox Cosmetic is discontinued, there are no proven adverse reactions.

Side effects with Botox are rare but may include the following: pain at the injection site, swelling, redness, bleeding/bruising, inflammation and infection. More severe side effects may include: dry mouth, tiredness, headache, neck pain, eye problems, and allergic reactions. Please contact us at YOUnique if you experience these side effects.

Patients may be recommended to not receive a Botox treatment if they have any of the following: allergy to Botox or its ingredients, allergy to similar products such as Dysport or Myobloc, active skin infection, disease affecting muscles and nerves, breathing and swallowing problems, bleeding problems, recent facial surgery, facial muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, and are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you have any questions about Botox Cosmetic, please feel free to call and speak with Dr. Youssef or a member of our YOUnique staff and we will be happy to answer all your questions.
