Twins need financial aid for cardiac treatment

IT IS a life and death battle for the three-month-old twins of Shelvi. The boys are afflicted by congenital heart disease and they are now suffering from recurrent seizures and persistent hypocalcaemia and chest infection, says consultant neonatologist Beena James of Lakshmi Hospital where the babies are now undergoing treatment. The babies have been advised a surgery costing around Rs 3.50 lakhs.

Shelvi's husband Jagdish is a daily wageworker and he has been running from pillar to post to find the money for the treatment of the babies born after five years of marriage. Son of Subramanyan and Savithri, Jagdish has no landed property. Jagdish and Shelvi, who fall under the BPL category, have been living in a rented house at Amaravathy, Fort Kochi. Their friends and relatives have come together to help the babies by raising the funds for treatment. A relief committee, under the leadership of social activists C C Valsan and P Ravindran of Fort Kochi, has been formed for the purpose. The committee has sought liberal financial help from philanthropists. Contributions can be deposited in the Syndicate Bank, bank account number - 43072200017376. The contact number of Jagadish is 9746623141.
