Magic of the deep breath!

I just wanted to look into some basic things that really go long way in our career as well as in our life. Many times we simply react without thinking and later we regret.
The other day, around 6pm, my manager Tim showed up at my desk. I was packed and ready to leave for the day. And I had very important appointment to attend.
Tim gave me some papers and said - "Hey Khader! I wanted this report. Can you create it for me?"
I looked at the report and asked him some questions. He cleared all of them. At the end I asked him – “When do you want it?”
"I want it before the end of day", he answered as if the day just started. I got really mad but I didn't say anything. I took a deep breath looking into those papers.
I said - "Well, I think I have all the questions cleared. I can start working on it."
"In fact, I was about to leave to attend my appointment"
"But, I would like to work on it first thing tomorrow. And I will be able to give it to you by 11am."
"Is that alright Tim?"
Tim looked at me with not so happy face, he waited for a moment and said - "I have a meeting at noon. I will need some time to look at the numbers, so I would like to have it before 11am."
I answered - "Sure. It is around two hour job. I promise you will have the report latest by 10:30am."
Tim said - "I trust you. Hope you will keep it so." and walked away saying "Have a good evening".
I was so mad that I could have simply said - "I can't do it today" and walked away. But I thought about how not to disappoint Tim and still attend my appointment. That deep breath gave me a moment to think about it.
This is may be just one situation, but we come across many such in our daily life. Remember that little Deep Breath that can totally change your response.
