One of the key responsibility of a leader is to build strong/capable teams. A team needs diverse skills and talents. Leader needs to assess key gaps in his teams and fill the positions in timely manner. Leader may fill in the gap by providing necessary guidance. But he will need to fill the position with right person at the earliest opportunity.

Leaders spend lot of time in recruitment. Recruit for current and future needs so that his team is prepared for current and future challenges.

To do this they are always on the look out for talent? How is talent different from skills? Skill is knowledge of solving problems. Talent is ability to apply variety of skills in a unique way to solve problems.

How to spot talented people?

Look for quality deliverables from people. Their work stands out from others and presents a distinct flavor. Look for passion in their work and pursuit of excellence. Look for inherent motivation to do their work with great enthusiasm

Look for these attributes in every business or professional opportunity. Look for talented people in teams in your company (may be in other departments or projects). Look for them while interacting with your partners, customers. Look for them online in professional networks.

Once you spot a unique talent, reach out and add them to your network.

Think over your professional experience and make a list of people who stood out. If you can make a list of 4-5 people whom you respect even if you are not in touch them, you have the skill to spot talent.
