IIM Calcutta signs MoU with the University of Melbourne, while IIM Bangalore links it with HEC

Student exchange programs are at an all time high, it seems. The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta signed an MOU with the University of Melbourne, Australia, on 14 September, 2009. The MOU was signed by Professor Saibal Chattopadhyay, Dean, Program Initiatives, IIM Calcutta, and Professor Nasser A Spear, GD Wood Chair of Accounting and Associate Dean (International), University of Melbourne.

On the occasion, Professor Chattopadhyay spoke about the innovative strategies that
IIM Calcutta is working on to attract more and more international MBA schools to IIM Calcutta’s student exchange (STEP) program. "IIM Calcutta enjoys a very good reputation amongst the affiliate universities primarily due to the high quality of students. With this MoU, IIM Calcutta’s total number of partner institute goes up to 43,” IIM Calcutta said. Professor Spear said, “Student exchanges would help students from both MBA schools acquire the cross-cultural skills that are critical for modern business. Faculty exchanges and joint research projects and conferences are also envisaged as part of the MOU.” According to the MBA School, the STEP program at IIM Calcutta, which started as early as 2000, has been a very successful program.

Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Management (
IIM) Bangalore and the HEC School of Management (HEC), a 125-year old MBA school based in Paris, France have successfully extended their on-going partnership to a student exchange program.

In the first year of the HEC
IIM Bangalore Exchange Program (HIEP), fourteen students of HEC visited IIM Bangalore during 7-12 September, 2009. “These students are working executives with considerable experience, ranging from five to fifteen years, across a number of industries. They are of different nationalities, coming from countries such as Italy, Brazil, France, the USA, Senegal and France. During their one-week stay they visited a number of companies and attended lectures,” IIM Bangalore said.

“We are delighted to have HEC students here on the
IIM Bangalore campus. In classroom and informal interactions, we were impressed with the depth of interest in Indian business issues, and the range of inquiry into socio-economic topics. Evidently, the students have covered considerable ground during their visit,” said Professor Pankaj Chandra, Director IIM Bangalore.
