IIM Raipur’s first summer placements: 20 govt. offers

As many as 20 students from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Raipur received summer internship projects with the Chhattisgarh government. The batch comprising 69 students — which is the first at IIM Raipur, received internship offers from 40 companies, said the institute’s placement committee.

Incidentally, IIM Raipur is possibly the last IIM to declare its placements (summer). When asked, a spokesman from the Placement Committee said that the delay was only in ‘releasing’ the report. “Some good companies came late so we had kept the placements running till the end,” the spokesman said.

The average work experience of the batch is about 18 months and 89% of the batch comprises engineering graduates. Ernst & Young offered an international internship in Kuwait. One candidate was also offered an internship in field of supply chain management in the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) in the north-east.

The twenty students who are doing their summer internships with the state government are working in the areas of the Public Distribution System, the health sector, the finance department, the communications and tourism departments. These projects were identified after a workshop titled ‘How IIM Raipur can play an effective role in the overall growth of Chhattisgarh’ was organized and conducted by the Chief Secretary of the state government some weeks ago.

This workshop was also attended by principal secretaries and MDs of state-owned enterprises, besides the students of IIM Raipur.

In Marketing, the major profiles offered were marketing strategy development, B2B marketing, marketing research and sales and marketing. In Finance, the major profiles offered were asset management, equity research, strategic costing and credit rating.

According to the Placement Committee, the average stipend works out to some Rs 40,000 for the entire internship.
