Continuing with the exclusive series on the upcoming state level MBA entrance exams, we present to you today the complete details of PMET, the Punjab Management Entrance Test.

PMET is conducted by Punjabi University, Patiala on behalf of Government of Punjab. Let us have a detailed look at the exam pattern, eligibility and the institutes. 

Institutes accepting PMET scores
The scores of PMET are accepted by the B-schools under the following universities of Punjab: Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar; Punjabi University, Patiala and Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar.

Eligibility
Candidates should have a Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 50 per cent marks from a recognized university or institute. For admission to the MBA program through the MET, 85 per cent seats will be reserved for the residents of Punjab State and 15 per cent seats will be open to candidates outside the State.

Exam Pattern
The exam consists of four sections in total. The sections are Mental and Numerical Ability, General Knowledge, General English and Business Aptitude. The test is divided into two parts. The duration of the first half is 2 hours and 15 minutes and that of the second half is 45 minutes. Separate papers are given for these two parts.

The sections Mental and Numerical Ability, General Knowledge and General English are clubbed into the first part and Business Aptitude is the second part of the test. There are 200 multiple choice questions, 50 in each section. There is one mark for each question and no negative marking on wrong answers.

Highlights of PMET 2010
The difficulty level of the PMET 2010 paper was easy to moderate. The section Mental & Numerical Ability had questions on Percentages, Averages, Ratio, Number series, Data Interpretation and Analytical Puzzles and Deductions. Questions on Data Interpretation were also there. There was one line graph, one stack graph and one table on percentage changes over two years.

The General Knowledge section was the easiest section of all. The questions were on Current Affairs as well as on static General Knowledge. The difficulty level of the General English section was moderate. Questions were on the areas of English Usage, Vocabulary and grammar.

Business Aptitude section was on the easier side. Questions were on brand ambassadors and their endorsements and brand ownerships. Other question types were expansion of acronyms like BSE, NDIR, CBDT and locations of IISc, NIPER, BARC. Also asked were names of heads of SEBI, RIL, Microsoft etc.

Estimated Date of the Exam
PMET 2010 was held on Sunday, July 4, 2010. The registration process started in May 2009 along with the notification. The announcement for PMET 2011 has not been announced by Punjabi University yet, but it can be expected in May 2011.
