CAT 2009 results deferred to February end

In what could give the Common Admission Test (CAT) 2009 candidates more tense and sleepless nights, the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) announced that result declaration of the computer-based CAT has been deferred to the end of February 2010.

In an official press release, the institute was quoted as saying, "CAT 2009 result declaration has been deferred to the end of February 2010." Previously, IIMs had said results would be declared on January 22, but had to be postponed due to the extension of test dates.

The result declaration was postponed to February 15, but the date stands deferred further now. Moreover, students would now get lesser time to prepare for the interview and group discussion.

The IIMs' maiden computer-based CAT had come under criticism from various sections due to mismanagement. Originally scheduled to be conducted between November 28 and December 7 last year, the test had to be extended by three extra days due to technical glitches. The first phase of the test was completed on December 8, 2009 while the second phase was conducted on January 30 and 31 2010.

Nearly 2,41,000 applicants registered for the CAT this year. CAT is mandatory for aspirants who wish to study at the seven IIMs and over 150 other B-schools in India.
