Dip in CAT applicants a blessing in disguise?
Siliconindia.com raises the question this week: "Is the dip in CAT 2010 registrations a blessing in disguise for serious MBA aspirants?".
The CAT registrations have dipped by 15% this year, as compared to CAT 2009 registrations. This dip – a decrease of 36,000 applicants – will certainly have an impact on MBA admissions 2011.
According to the Directors of leading B-schools the dip, though not a big surprise to them, is a strong indication of non-serious MBA aspirants opting out of the race. The Directors believe that this is not something that management education fraternity should worry about.
“The brand MBA has stabilized itself and non-serious aspirants have moved out,” said Dr. Devi Singh, Director, IIM Lucknow to Siliconindia.
Dr. Harivansh Chaturvedi, Director, BIMTECH Greater Noida, said, “Before 2007 there was a high level of euphoria associated with MBA education. The dip indicates that the euphoria has now dissipated. Those students who are not very serious about making a career in management domain are now avoiding the CAT exam. Only the serious contenders will now be in the race.”
A total of 2.06 lakh candidates have registered for CAT 2010. The CAT 2009 registration figures were 2.42 lakh. Do you think this is a blessing in disguise as there are now lesser number of candidates for the increased number of seats at the IIMs, courtesy the additional seats offered by the new IIMs at Ranchi, Raipur and Rohtak.
Does this offer you a better chance of making it to your dream B-school.Siliconindiacom raises the question this week: “Is the dip in CAT 2010 registrations a blessing in disguise for serious MBA aspirants?”.
Have your say.
