IIM-A to adopt cohort-based placement process

The summer placements at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A)  was a four-day affair last year will continue for weeks this year, until each of its students is placed. The institute is focused on a more precise match making of student and job.IIM-A will discard the day-based placement system and adopt an open-ended and comparatively relaxed cohort-based placement system, for its summer placements this year. This system was experimented for the first time this year during the institute's final placements.

Summer placements in IIM-A are a part of the curriculum of the Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) wherein the students have to work as an intern with a firm. The placements will see the participation of the PGP-1 students. As a trend, the placements are held much prior to the time of internship. This year, the placements will begin from November. The students will work with the respective companies during the months of April, May and June 2011.

The cohort-based placement process, beginning from 12 November 2010, will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Around 420 students will be participating in the summer placements this year. In a cohort-based placement system, the firms are grouped on the basis of their types and the placement days are slotted accordingly.
