INSPIRA 2010 - A Great Success
Inspiration and aspiration – the twin sisters made for a stupendous evening at the LTG auditorium in central Delhi on the 27th of September. The occasion was the third edition of INSPIRA – The Annual Inspirational Event for MBA Aspirants.Like each year, Dr. Palash Sen, who is the founder of India’s most successful band, Euphoria, and the chief-mentor students, came in to rock! In presence were close to 600 highly energetic and enthusiastic MBA aspirants and almost one-third of them kept standing in the aisles throughout the show as the seats were completely occupied even before the mega-event began. In terms of scale as well as enthusiasm, INSPIRA has clearly set a new benchmark for interactive platforms for MBA aspirants.
The event took off with Ms. Kanupriya, a senior leader from SOIL (School of Inspired Leadership), sharing her experiences of CAT preparation and how she overcame the challenges faced by her. Her story of making it to IIM Bangalore stuck an instant chord with the hundreds of CAT aspirants present there, several of whom surrounded her with their questions once the event got over. Speaking on the sidelines, Kanupriya said, “INSPIRA is very coherent with our identity at SOIL. And ofcourse, we haven’t come across a better platform for a B-School to reach out to its direct target audience at such a huge scale.”
The event was also addressed by Deekshant SahrawatA professional songwriter, and an alumnus of IIT Delhi and IIM Calcutta, Deekshant’s interaction with the students indicated his deep understanding of the students’ anxieties and aspiration as the date of CAT and other MBA entrance examinations draws near. Peppering his presentation with inspirational clippings and a good dose of humour, Deekshant exhorted the students to believe in themselves: “Do not settle for anything less than your best .. you have it in you to conquer the world”. Simplifying the concept of probability, Deekshant said to a charged up audience, “Do not see your chances of cracking CAT as 2%, or whatever number you arrive at quantitatively. If your dream is to make it to a top B-School, and if you are willing to fight for that dream, your chances automatically multiply several times.” The positive energy in the audience was almost tangible by now.
The best though was saved for the last when Dr. Palash Sen entered the venue and soon took centrestage in his role as inspirer for student.Dr. Palash Sen belongs to a rare breed of well educated celebrities and is the lead singer and founder of India’s most reputed band, EUPHORIA. And it only took the first few minutes to understand why EUPHORIA is such a big hit in college campuses across India. Drawing an almost instant connect with the young students, Dr. Palash got a concert-like energy flowing among the entire audience. Instead of giving a rehearsed speech, Dr. Palash chose the tougher but more enthralling question-answer mode of interaction. While some asked what they should do to convince their parents to allow them to take up their passions more seriously, a girl even wanted to know how to join his band. The doc patiently answered all these questions in his inimitable, witty yet profound, manner. Talking about if he still had any goals left, he drew a thunderous applause when he said, “Oh yes, I have new goals to achieve every single day. My goal for today is to interact with you all. And if I can motivate some of you to believe more in yourself and your dreams, I would consider it achieved.” Talking about failure, he said, “Do not be afraid of failure, but do not fail yourself. Do not be dejected by defeat but do not accept defeat.” Quoting from one of his hit songs Soneya, he said “Haar na maanana”.
And how could the enthused audience allow INSPIRA to end without having Palash sing. And the doc rocked when he sang some of Euphoria big hits such as Mae Ri, Dhoom and Gully. And though there was no music to support him, one never felt the need because he had the entire audience sing with him and clap.
So, go out and do your best at CAT this year. And we will just wait for the next edition of INSPIRA. Till then, stay inspired and keep inspiring.
