What are Thermometer and Its Types?
Oral Thermometer:-
Oral thermometer allows the patient who is able to place the thermometer into the mouth or holding securely under the arm, which generally excludes small children or people who are unconscious.
Rectal Thermometer:-
A rectal thermometer is another way of taking body temperature. Rectal temperature is considered to be the most precise. Since, it has to be inserted into the anus, it is not considered pleasant. Rectal thermometers are mostly in use for babies and infants. A Doctor may recommend taking a rectal reading until the baby reaches 3 months of age, since a precise reading is very important when the baby is too young. Rectal thermometers can also be used for taking temperature of animals.
Forehead Thermometer:-
This is the newer method to take person’s fever. The above two thermometers are being phased out and replaced by forehead thermometers. These come in two different forms:
A strip placed on the forehead or a temporal artery thermometer. The strip form of forehead thermometer has been around for a few years now but the temporal artery thermometer is a newer invention. These are commonly used for infants and young children. Studies have shown that forehead thermometer is not always accurate. It will, however, confer you an idea whether or not the child has fever.
So be sure to research each one of the thermometer before buying, to ensure that the product meets the needs of the patient.
