early morning the newspaper boy knocks on the door...knock knock...
u hear the voice...
run towards the door with great excitement and what ur deep blue eyes notice is
GANG RAPE....... u get afraid, a fear start grasping your senses, u get ready to go to office but before leaving, u just give a sweet look to your preety daughter, kiss on her forehead & say take care. The whole day your senses remain lost, even if she gets late by half an hour u start making her numerous calls, ask her foolish questions so that she doesn't notice your nervousness.
This is the phase which every second Indian is going through before sending his daughter out of home. As in other countries throughout the world, rape is common in India. Rape is a social disease. Hardly a day passes without a case of rape being reported in Indian newspapers and media. Women belonging to low castes, and tribal women are more at risk. What is sad about rape in India is the lack of seriousness with which the crime is often treated.Statistics from 2000 showed that on average a woman is raped every hour in India.
A 20 year old MBA girl gets raped, and look what our great village elders have to say "It was just a Rape". A mistake that is commonly made by young teenagers. Actually the history of Indian society has been blackspotted by this sin.
Unfortunately all rapes are not being reported. The media will report a rape only when it is a different kind of rape - a 'normal' rape is not a rape for them, as it lacks all the masalas to make it hot enough to increase their TRPs. Rapes which become part of political game or a whole caste are only being reported. Neither a small 4 year girl nor a 50 year old woman has been left of becoming the victim of this sin.
Neither the class nor the age is a barrier to it. A 40-YEAR-OLD havaldar allegedly raped her 15year-old daughter, a 13 year old boy rapes a 6 year old girl and After assaulting the girl, he attacked her private parts with a blade, and the list of shame continues.
Sexual harassment and rape are two sides of the same coin. Both showcase the power of man to dominate that of women. Both have one victim- ‘women’. Whereas in rape- the victim is ravished like an animal for the fulfillment of desire and lust of another man. Both have the same object- to undermine the integrity of the victim, physically as well as mentally.
As observed by Justice Arjit Pasayat:" While a murderer destroys the physical frame of the victim, a rapist degrades and defiles the soul of a helpless female."
ALARMING RISE:
Rape cases have been grown by 700% from 1953
20000 rape cases all over india
It is the fastest growing crime in India. Nearly three years ago as India was celebrating the festival of lights, the world dimmed for an 18-year-old as she was returning from work late in the night. Iris was first stalked by four drunken men and then raped by one of them in the heart of New Delhi. The reported cases of rape have grown by 700 per cent since 1953. Last year 20,000 rapes were reported in the country.
One case was that of a minor girl being raped by a policeman. The protectors of crime surprisingly have become the carriers of crime.
No wonder then that the conviction rate for rape is as low as 27 per cent. In a country where a rape is reported every 30 minutes, it's a statistic that should put all of us to shame.
The victims continue to face the insensitive police and above all a pathetic criminal justice system. An average policeman hardly knows how to talk politely, is barely educated, is uncouth, brash and rude. The trial of rape cases is very long and intimidation for the victim.
Feel hard to beleive my statement, have a look at this: Delhi seems to be the most unsafe city among the four metros in India, with the national capital witnessing a "RAPE" in every thousand minutes, if one goes by the latest government data. The Delhi city, excluding rural areas, witnessed a RAPE every 1003.1 minute last year while for Mumbai the figure was 3020.7 minutes, the statistics prepared by National Crime Records Bureau said.Kolkata seems to be the safest among the metros where a RAPE is reported only in 11,945.5 minutes. Chennai has a sexual assault case in every 11,426 minutes. The Delhi city last year recorded 524 incidents of RAPE in which 483 cases were chargesheeted as against 695 and 533 respectively in 2006.The number of cases in the three metros last year were: Chennai -- 46, Kolkata -- 44 and Mumbai -- 174.The whole of Delhi, including rural areas, registered 598 rape cases in 2007, that is, every 878.9 minutes, a rape is taking place.Interestingly, in Goa, which reports high-profile sexual abuse cases, a rape case was reported only in 26,280 minutes.Nagaland topped the list of the safest states, with a rape reported only in 40,430 minutes. Among the safest Union Territories, Daman and Diu, and Lakshadweep topped the list with a rape only in 5,25,600 minutes. The worst scenario was in Madhya Pradesh where every 174.6 minute, a woman was raped.
Given the social stigma attached to the victims of the crime rather than the perpetrators and the bias of the Indian police and society against women, we believe the real incidence of rape in India could be 20 times as high as the reported figures because many women do not come forward to report their rapes or are shoved aside by the legal system. So the real rape figures for India could be as high as 400,000
Many victims are prevented from reporting as it becomes a matter of family honour (khandan ki izzat ka kya hoga) and the victim remains traumatised by the incident. They either accept their ongoing life or commit sucide. All these victims are societies own making.
But we take pride of being an Indian, belonging to the Indian Society, its rich cultural heritage. A country where on one side a girl is worshipped as a face of godess laxmi and on the other the same face is beng ripped apart by some mentally ill and physically sick cinics. We are just fooling ourseleves. Morally we should feel highly disgraced and shameful. We belong to a country where Women are still considered to be the property of men and not more than that. This statement becomes much more relevant in relation to rural areas. Our system is highly corrupt, our society is highly self-centered, Our ministers are the carriers of Red Tapism and bureaucracy. Rape has become a norm rather than an exception. Society, Family, Police and Judiciary, all act as a great wall against the removal of this norm.
As you read this article, some unfortunate girl, woman or child is likely being raped in India. So now i would like to ask everyone, Kahan hai Bharat Nirman, Kahan hai Mera Bharat Mahan.
After all this i know you will still feel proud of being an Indian but unfortunately I feel proud of being SHAMELESSsssss.
