Get out of CVD - Cardio Vascular Disease
According to recent data released on October 19, 2011, Dubai Health Authority - DHA said that every year they receive 15,000 outpatients who suffer from some form of cardio vascular disease (CVD). In terms of inpatients, the DHA receives 3,000 patients, of which 60 percent are heart attacks cases. The other 40% are cases of heart failures. Isn’t that shocking, especially when the global average age for CVD is “65” years whereas in UAE the average age is less than “55” years. DHA also said that one in four deaths is attributed to CVD and 80% of these deaths are preventable through lifestyle changes.
What is Lifestyle? Lifestyle is all about what we imbibe through our six senses; Sight, Smell, Touch, Hear, Taste and sixth sense. My idea would be get out and defeat the CVD.
- Sight: Get out of the house, away from the internet and TV and go for a walk. Go visit new places or go watch a performance or read inspiring literature.
- Hear: Get out of the house away from metallic music, away from the cell phone rings, away from the email clicks and substitute it with calming music; inspiring music and soothing music or just sit in silence and meditate.
- Touch: Get out and touch hearts of people, spend time with your family and friends and touch them with your laughter. Get out and exercise your body and mind.
- Smell: Get out and smell the fresh dew on the leaves. Go out to the beach and smell the sea, smell the sand and take in fresh air.
- Taste: Stop the junk food, stop high cholesterol meals. And substitute them with fresh fruits, fresh salads and everything fresh.
- Sixth Sense: Think positive.
