Buy an iPad 3?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the iPad 3 is being produced for a release in early 2012. This fits perfectly with their normal release schedule that the previous to editions of the iPad followed. The WJS reports that key components, like display panels and chips have been ordered from manufactures. This means that all the rumors around Apple ordering parts for the iPad 3 were in fact true. It also seems that the leaked photo of an iPad 3 component may in fact be real. However the rumors surrounding these parts that the release was being pushed for late 2011 release seem to have been false according to current reports.

There are a lot of rumours circulating the web at the moment, mainly about what features the iPad 3 is going to have. Can iPad 3 play flash video files or dvd movies? If you want to play it on ipad, you have to use an ipad video converter to convert it.however I believe the main question on everybody’s lips is how much will the iPad 3 cost?

Now obviously Apple still need to stay competitive to the market and we imagine they will take most of the hit on the increase in manufacturing costs, however even with this considered they are still going to need to increase the cost of the iPad 3 to us, the customers.

Currently Verizon and AT&T are not allowed to subsidize the price of the iPad 2 because of Apple. This essentially leaves the stores with only the option of selling month to month prepaid data plans. According to The Daily this is all going to change with the release of the iPad 3. Apple will reportedly let carriers subsidize the sale of the iPad 3 thus dropping the price to a reported $199. This would be great for those looking to enter the tablet, specifically the iPad market, at a lower cost. It would however lock you into your iPad 3 for two years, thus theoretically forcing you to miss or pay retail for the iPad 4. However this is the same issue many deal with daily with the release of new cell phones constantly.

The only reason that this may not occur is that Apple wants to retain the value in the brand of the iPad and iPad 3. I however believe it would be more beneficial to continue their hold on the market. With an iPad 3 released around the $200 price point they would be guaranteed to hold market share and possibly gain some of what has been lost. A lower price point would also bring the tablet market to a large sector of individuals who are currently priced out of the market. Data fees would of course cost overtime, but historically many consumers ignore this fact when making phone purchases.
