Disadvantages of Laptop Computers

Disadvantages of Laptop Computers On behalf of Expert Village.com my name is Don with Friendly Computers and I'm here to tell you about laptops today. This particular time were here to talk about disadvantages of laptops. And while there's a lot of advantages and portability convenience and all that there's still some disadvantages to laptops that remain as right now. One of them is cost, when you purchase a laptop if you try to get the same or similar performance to whatever desktop your always going to pay more for the laptop, primarly becakuse the miniturization of parts it makes it more expensive to produce. Therefore your always going to take some performance reduction in a laptop and your always just going to pay a little more for it. There's a few other disadvantages of somebody that is going to buy one should be aware of. Besides cost of purchasing is over all cost of ownership, which that comes down is maintaince, repairs, upgrades, and all of those things. Laptop maintaince is more expensive that desktops maintaince. There much less assisable to a technician part are very unique for each laptop design and therefore, are more expensive to obtain because you have limited source for them. Many of the laptops builder use alot of propartary parts in them so you can only get the parts through them. All this adds up to a higher cost for any part that you need to replace or that fails in a higher cost for the actual technician to do the work. There's also very little than an average user can do to a laptop where as a desktop a lot of users today can replace a lot of the components themselves. With a laptop thats just not possible to do. Another disadvantage with a laptop is the availability of upgrades, with a laptop about the only thing you can upgrade is the amount of ram and only to whatever the laptop motherboard will accept. So if you bought a laptop today you might be able to get up to 2 gigabytes of ram and if you bought one of higher end newer Santa Rosa laptops you can probably go up to 4 gigabytes of ram. And now in today's environment that great because this 32 bit and XP and all the other operating systems only recognize up like to 3 1/2. However the 64 bit operating systems recognize significantly more than that and over the few years there's only going to be a bigger demand of ram on a machine. The other disadvantage besides just the cost the upgrades is the fact that there very easily broken. So if you purchase a laptop keep it safe keep an eye on it and keep it protected
