Modern times have seen the phenomenal revolution in the field of computers. Be it rocket science or weather forecast, medical research or simply shopping for common needs, the effect is everywhere. And a next big step that would leap the world of computers to another level is Virtual Reality which has of late created stir among the computer enthusiasts across the globe.

Virtual Reality or better understood as the real feeling of virtual world, literally takes everyone for a wonderful dream ride where the computer users actually become the part of the world of imagination. Several systems are being developed on the basis of virtual reality. While a trainee surgeon can undergo practice without actually operating the patient, one can learn to fly plane without actually sitting in the cockpit and what’s more you can even test ride any car without freewheeling on the streets.

Let’s know some of the best innovations popped up from the extension of virtual reality.

3D World

While earlier the world of animation was dominated by technology in which the objects in motion were shown transforming in shapes and appearance wooing the viewers no end, the use of virtual reality takes the entire magic to a step further. Here the two dimensional technology is advanced to three dimensional projections wherein the viewers can virtually enter the scene and become the part of these hypothetical activities. The viewer is sported with a special helmet like eye wear fitted with mini computer screen flashing wonderful scenes. The controls lie at the hand of user who can adjust the appearing visuals. For example, if there is a car driving scene, then the user may have controls on gear, steering, accelerator, giving him the thrill of actually driving.

Advance medical science

Virtual Reality have been put to great use in various sectors, be it corporate organization or medical research institution. A trainee doctor can perform critical surgery on imaginative patient. While undergoing the operation the reflection of virtual patient appears on screen and the real surgeon too becomes the part of computer controls. This distinctly depletes the fine line between virtual and real. As the doctor holds the knife and cuts open the arteries, everything appears real. This way a trainee can have better understanding of human anatomy and becomes well prepared before actually performing the surgery.

Companies edging to reality

America’s Silicon Graphics Company which has developed special effects for dinosaurs’ sequences in the cult Hollywood hit “Jurassic Park” has recently developed a computer program called “Onix”. This program is made to use for the development of virtual reality. The program has also been customized as per the usage of various companies involved in diversified production. Apart from Silicon Graphics, other companies like Apple, IBM, Motorola etc. are also making concrete efforts in the field of virtual reality. The experts are targeting to make VR more useful, close to reality and more affordable.
