Is Zaheer & Dhoni’s injury a threat to India ?

The T20 World Cup is just round the corner and there are a few danger signs for India. Zaheer Khan has injured his left shoulder, which has ruled him out of Mumbai Indians’ game against Team Hyderabad http://kona.kontera.com/javascript/lib/imgs/grey_loader.gif

on Wednesday.

But going by Mumbai Indians chief mentor Shaun Pollock’s reaction on Tuesday, it’s evident that the injury may affect the pace man for more than a game. "The scan reports aren’t as bad as we expected it to be. But we’re not in the mood to take chances with him," Shaun Pollock said.

"He has been bowling well for us and in his absence, the others will have to rise to the occasion."
The former South Africa pace man makes it clear that the team management will take it day by day and see how Zaheer recovers.

"Zaheer is a class bowler and it will be foolish for us to rush him back. There’s the T20 World Cup also round the corner and from India’s perspective too, we should use him judiciously," Pollock sounded concerned.

With no wicket keeping backup whatsoever for the World Cup, it may be too tough for Dhoni to keep right through the IPL. He may be seen in the outfield, giving his back some rest so that it is in the best possible condition before the World Cup.

"There is a slight swelling on the forefinger. But it should subside and Dhoni should recover in time for the match against Kings XI on Thursday in Pretoria," he said. Both Dhoni and Zaheer are vital to India’s chances in the T20 World Cup and it’s to be seen if there’s any diktat from BCCI in the next few days to use them sparingly in the IPL.

Meanwhile, there’s cause of concern for the South African team management as well. Their premier all rounder Albie Morkel fielded with a strapped ankle against Team Hyderabad on Monday.
