Agile Project Management - Reap the Benefits

Team leader
Now days everyone wants to adopt agile methodology. Initially people start their exploration, experimentation with full source of energy and enthusiasm and down the line they think they haven’t got the desired benefits of agile. They generally conclude we tried agile and it is not really working for us or it is not for our project.

It is human mentality to expect the instant result in every aspect of life... called "instant gratification". In IT Industry customers also want instant results/deliveries.

In addition to instant results mentality, most of the time we are not 100% ready to accept any new change despite of knowing its benefits. This is applicable to our personal life also. The outcome or benefits or success we generally get as per our hard work, commitment and dedication we have shown.

Various delivery methods can be used to help in this transition process. Change can come quickly and can be difficult to deal with. This article focuses on how to be patient and properly administer the change so that the benefits of Agile Project Management can be fully realized in individual projects and throughout the company.

How to reap the benefits

To get the real benefits of agile we sincerely need to do the following things:

(1) Before changing the team member’s attitude or way of thinking we need to change ourself and our own mindset. It is applicable to everyone who is going to work for project across all level of management (Top Management to Bottom management)

We need to adopt and follow disciplines on our own, then guide our team to follow agile practices by showing example. It is easy to say to team members or to others to ensure and follow the agile practices but it is bit difficult to make ourself tuned to adopt agile practices. Once you show the flexibility and readiness to learn, the team will respect you and do the same.

(2) To test real flavor of agile success it is a basic need to sincerely work together not on paper but in reality across all level of management (Top Management to Bottom management)

Many people work to create and maintain documents, not for their projects but for the audits and processes sake. If it is the case, then processes are not working for people but rather people are working for processes. This is a danger signal.

(3) The main key factors for agile delivery success are: Communication Motivation DisciplineAgile in simple words is nothing but common sense and disciplines (practices, principles, values) which we need to use and follow in right direction with right people at all level of management and customers.
