“The Restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment”
Purpose of RoHS
1, the intention is very evident: to prohibit using or selling such products in which hazardous substances content is over tolerance on the EU market.
2. According to RoHS directive, since July 1st, 2006, the content of Pb. Hg. Cd. Cr6+. PBDE and PBB in all the electrical and electronic equipments selling on the EU market should not higher than special tolerance.
Six kinds of hazardous substances:
- Pb (affect center neural system and kidney system)
- Cd (kidney disease cause ache lead kidney crock up)
- Hg (affect center neural system and kidney system)
- Cr6+ (cause descend gene default)
- PBDE/PBB (cause cancer and embryo abnormal)
Objectives
To contribute protection of Human health and the environmentally sound recovery and disposal of waste EEE
Categories of electrical and electronic equipment covered by 2002/95/EC Directive
- Large household appliances
- Small household appliances
- IT and telecommunications equipment
- Consumer equipment
- Lighting equipment
- Electrical and electronic tools (with the exception of large-scale stationary industrial tools)
- Toys, leisure and sports equipment
- Automatic dispensers
WEEE
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment 2002/96/EC
Purpose:
Since Aug.13th.2005, the producers (including importers and distributors) shall be liable for taking back and dealing with the electrical and electronic equipments on the EU market, and pasting the recycle mark.
Intentions
• the prevention of waste electrical and electronic equipment
• reuse, recycling and other forms of recovery of such wastes so as to reduce the disposal of waste
• improve the environmental performance of all operators involved in the life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment, e.g. producers, distributors and consumers and in particular those operators directly involved in the treatment of waste electrical and electronic equipment.
Maximum concentration values in homogeneous materials of the RoHS restricted substances are:
- Mercury 0.1% by weight 1000 ppm
- Cadmium 0.01% by weight 100 ppm
- Lead 0.1% by weight 1000 ppm
- Chromium (VI) 0.1% by weight 1000 ppm
- PBB 0.1% by weight 1000 ppm
- PBDE 0.1% by weight 1000 ppm
