Resolving “Error accessing a table...” Error
Are you encountering an error message during DB2 database startup? Or
during the execution of Alter Tablespace SQL command? If 'yes', then
the three possible reasons for the error message are, container could
not be found, container is not tagged, or container is corrupt. In most
of these situations, the database becomes unmountable, rendering to
inaccessibility of stored records. To get past the above error message
and to access DB2 database records, the user needs to restore the
tablespace or database from an updated backup. However, if the backup
is not available or corrupted, then you need to repair corrupted DB2
database using an effective DB2 Recovery application.
To illustrate the above case, consider a practical scenario wherein you encounter the below error message while trying to start your DB2 database:
“SQL0293N Error accessing a table space container.”
After the above error message pops up, data saved in the database becomes inaccessible. In addition, no operations can be performed on the database after the error message flashes on the screen.
Cause:
The above error message appears when the container becomes unreadable due to any of the underneath reasons:
The container tag is corrupt.
The container was not found at the time of mounting the database.
The container is improperly tagged to a different table space.
Resolution:
To resolve the database startup error message and to access database records, you need to follow the steps mentioned underneath:
Verify that the container (raw device, directory, or file) exists at its specified location.
Restore the database from an updated backup.
In case of unavailable backup or backup falling short of restoring the database, the database needs to be repaired using a commercial DB2 Recovery software.
A DB2 Repair utility uses effective repair techniques to repair corrupted DB2 databases, and restore them at required location. The non destructive utility maintains complete security of the original database. The repair application is built with user-friendly interface that makes the software self-explanatory.
Stellar Phoenix DB2 Recovery is used by most of the database administrators to repair their logically corrupted databases. DB2 Database Recovery tool supports repair of IBM DB2 (UDB) v8 databases. Designed for Windows 2003, XP, and 2000, it recovers almost all DB2 database components, including, tables, views, schemas, triggers, buffer pools etc. The recovery utility recovers primary foreign keys associated with tables.
