Unitech adopting unfair practices in real estate in India
The builder was supposed to pay up penalty for delayed delivery of the apartment. It was not a huge amount but still due to delays to the tune of 18 months (over a committed project period of 30 months i.e. an overrun of 60% in time), it amounted to nearly 2 lakh Rupees - i.e. nearly 4K USD.
Unitech just issued out a letter to me at the end of the project for collecting the posesssion letter and clearing up the dues as per their claculations.
I was shocked to find that they attached a letter stating that the Super area of the apartment being alloted to me was now larger by ~100 Sq. ft. (over an apartment of 2000 sq. ft., a 5% increase). I am now suppoed to pay up for this increased area and guess what - the amount due to me is more than offset by this increase in area. Isn't there something fishy - isnt it a malpractice in the trade? How can a builder discover at the time of delivering the posession - Oh! by the way, the area of your apratment turned out to be larger than we agreed for. AND you know what, you have no other option but to pay for it. grinnnn.... I am apalled at this behaviour and malpractice.
I am sure there are others like me who are also suffering at the hands of these builders but there is no other way... I would love to know what can be done to prevent being looted openly by such large business houses - who are virtually hand in glove with the entire govt. setup in the country.
Instead of being elated at receiving the letter, the spirits are dampened and I am feeling miserable at being helpless against this large organisation called Unitech.
