The liquid crystal display HVGA touch screen topped with optical-quality, the scratch-resistant glass is specifically created for use with a finger, or multiple fingers for multi-touch sensing. No stylus is needed, nor can one be used because the screen is a capacitive screen.

The I Phone has headphones that are similar to those of current iPods but it also incorporates a microphone. You can answer calls and end calls by squeezing a bud on the earphone device. Wireless earpieces that use Bluetooth technology to communicate with the I Phone are sold separately. You can use the loudspeaker both for hands free operations and media playback

The device implements a virtual keyboard on the touch screen for text input. It has predictive word capabilities automatic spell checking and a dynamic dictionary that learns new words. If you are scrolling through a long list works as if the list is pasted on the surface of a wheel: the wheel can be "spun" by sliding a finger over the display from bottom to top or the other way around.

The I Phone has three physical switches on its sides: sleep or wake, volume up or down, ringer on or off. All other phone and multimedia operations are done via the touch screen.
The I Phone allows call holding, conferencing, caller ID, call merging, and integration with other cellular network features and I Phone functions.

This innovative device includes a Visual Voicemail feature in conjunction with AT&T which allows users to view a list of current voicemail messages on-screen, without having to call into their voicemail.

The I Phone features a built in camera with a 2.0 mega pixel capacity located at the back for digital still photos but no video recording is available yet. Software that allows the user to upload, view, and e-mail photos is included with the device.
