THE FUTURE CAR

After the introduction of small car by Maruti Udyog, the small car segment took a turn around in the car market and needed time to grow spectacularly with the entry of Hundai, Tata, GM and others. Small cars have become favourite choice for transportation of Middle class and affordable also.

Year by year, the city roads in all metros is witnessing broadening, construction of bridges and flyover at inter junctions with medians (separator). Inspite of all these measures, free flow of vehicles stumbled upon traffic jam, particularly during peak hours, due to too much of vehicles all at a time. Space constraint on either side shelved ideas of further expansion of roads in some places. When Tata’s Nano cars swamp the roads, it would be much difficult for the road users to reach their destination in time.

A novel idea to design a mini car in consideration of narrow space and traffic in roads is not a bad idea at this moment of time. The measurements are 2 or 2 ½ feet width, 8 feet long and 5 feet height with three cabins, first being for driver, second and third for sitting one after another in a row with openable front door and sliding door for rear. Instead of 4 wheels, 3 wheels - 1 in front and 2 at the back can be thought of. Engine in the front as usual with or without gear drive (single gear). Other features may be furnished as in conventional models. Automobile industries can take advantage of present traffic environment with respect to space and small roads to design and roll out mini cars which will hit the roads certainly.
