Services to teach Indian sign languages opened at IGNOU

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) inaugurated two language teaching facilities on Tuesday. The foundation stone of the country’s first Indian Sign Language Research and Training Center (ISLRTC) was also laid at the main campus of the university in the Capital.

Classes shall commence from October 15 in the temporary buildings of IGNOU. The building is expected to be completed within one year, while faculty recruitment will be done within two months, IGNOU officials said.

The foundation stone was laid by Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal and Mukul Wasnik, Minister of Social Justice and empowerment.

IGNOU, the National Resource Centre for Open and Distance Learning (ODL), with international recognition and presence, shall provide seamless access to sustainable and learner-centric quality education, skill upgradation and training to all by using innovative technologies and methodologies and ensuring convergence of existing systems for massive human resource required for promoting integrated national development and global understanding.
