Mumbai University appoints section to set up engineering institute on campus
Currently, all the engineering colleges affiliated to Mumbai University are privately owned. The university did not have an engineering department in the campus. However, this year a budget of approximately Rs 50 lakh has been sanctioned to make various provisions for the proposed institute.
“I received a letter from the university dated October 29 informing us to conduct meetings and submit our recommendations for establishing the institute. However, we have not decided the date of the first meeting,” said Chandra, also the co-ordinator of the committee.
The university on Friday released a circular announcing the names of the members appointed in the committee. It is expected to conduct meetings and discuss the technical and academic aspects of the institute and also what subjects could be introduced. “MU does not have a department of engineering and medicine. Setting up an engineering institute will be beneficial for many students and the university as far as development is concerned,” said a senior MU official.
However, the authorities are yet to decide on which MU campus will the institute be set up. An official said, “This will also be recommended by the varsity-appointed committee.”
