Sources said that Nagpur University received a fax from principal secretary of higher and technical education Sanjiv Kumar in this regard on Wednesday. It mentioned the official appointment of Ainchwar as the VC of Gondwana University and that he will be taking the charge from Thursday.

However, disappointed with the newly appointed VC, the members of Maharashtra Adivasi Sevak Sanghatana demanded a representative of tribal to take over the reins of Gondwana. A delegation of eight members of the organization met the governor-cum-chancellor K Sankaranarayanan on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.

Highlighting the university was established for tribal people of the eastern region districts such as Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, the delegation claimed that it would be beneficial to appoint a tribal as the first VC of Maharashtra's newest university. They said that they are well-qualified and capable to do justice to the important post and demanded cancellation of the new appointment. Meanwhile, the governor assured the delegation that he would take serious consideration of their demands and will discuss the issue with chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.
