The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc)  have decided to use the CAT 2011 as part of the selection process for MBA and management programs for school year 2012-13.

The test of joint management committee input (JMET) previously used for the registration of IIT and IISc are interrupted by a press release by IIM.

The decision was taken after a recent study found that the relatively young JMET is not very different from CAT and the effort to organize every year JMET seemed enormous compared with about 40 000 candidates who passed the test every year .

"The intersection of the candidates who take CAT and JMET in a single year is quite large. The decision to use CAT for admission to the IITs and IISc minimize the test preparation and financial burden of the candidates' quotes the press LS Ganesh, former head of IIT Madras Management, as saying.

The original five IITs - Kharagpur, Bombay, Madras, Kanpur and Delhi - as well as IIT Roorkee in India are the oldest institutions have offered post-graduate and research programs in management since 1960.

"CAT is an ideal solution for an IIT it is well developed, set up, the entrance examination standardized and widely accepted for admission to PG programs in management in India," said Ganesh.

"This is an important initiative that brings two higher education systems of the first series. We anticipate that this will result in more ties and collaborative research that will enable both sets of institutions a competitive advantage in the long term," said Janakiraman Moorthy 2011 CAT coordinator.

CAT 2011, more than 20 days window period of October 22 to November 18 for more than 36 cities.
