iPhone 4S reportedly set for Taiwan release in mid-December
Taipei, Nov. 24 (CNA) Apple Inc.'s iPhone 4S is expected to be released in Taiwan in mid-December, a telecommunication market source said Thursday. However, none of Taiwan's top three telecom operators, Chunghwa Telecom Co., Taiwan Mobile Co. or Far EasTone Telecommunications Co. Ltd., have opened pre-orders for the latest version of Apple's iPhone. Far EasTone is allowing customers to register at retail stores to receive the latest updates on the launch of iPhone 4S. The domestic market is abuzz with speculations that pre-sale orders for the latest release in the iPhone series will begin as soon as next week, but there has been no confirmation of the information. A telecommunication market source said pre-orders are expected to open one week ahead of the official launch of the product. iPhone 4S has attracted a buying frenzy since its release elsewhere in Asia last month, partly because it is viewed as the last major project that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs' worked on before his death on Oct. 5. In addition, the device's dual-core processor and eight-megapixel camera are also major attractions for Apple fans. iPhone 4S was released in Japan on Oct. 14, in Singapore on Oct. 28, and in Hong Kong and South Korea on Nov. 11.
