India can get a better Parliament in 2014
Every well informed Indian knows that India developed very slow in the last 65 years. A better democracy and faster, equitable and inclusive socio-economic development can be achieved only thru a team of well qualified and honest parliamentarians and an efficiently working parliament. India needs them very urgently!
How can India get these? I have a few suggestions:
1. In the 2014 Indian general elections, voters should vote for well qualified candidates. This is an easy decision to be made by all aware and informed citizens; no changes are needed in the existing rules and regulaltions.
2. Indian voters should vote for candidates who promise to make an effective Jan Lokpl bill on the lines suggested by the India Against Corruption organisation within one year of election or resign his/her MP mandate.
3. Indian voters should get the right to make negative vote, i.e., right to reject a candidate thru vote.
4. Voters should vote for candidates who promise to skip parliamentary compensations for the days when they do not attend the scheduled parliament meetings and when it does not function thru protests, disruptions etc. They should keep this promise; their MP mandate will relish if they break the promise.
5. A new 'Anti-corruption Party (ACP)' or 'Peoples Action Party (PAP)' in line with the Singaporean Peoples Action Party (PAP) should be established. 'India Against Corruption (IAC)' could be a very striking name for the new party as well.
This new party should have features proposed by various NGOs like Sri. Anna Hazera's India Against Corruption organisation, Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Peoples Union for Civil Liberty (PUCL), Lok Satta of Andhra Pradesh etc.
Campaigns by Sri. Anna Hazare, Sri. Kejeriwal, Sri. Prashant Bhushan, Srimati. Kiran Bedi etc and organisations like India Against corruption, Association for Democratic Reform (ADR), Peoples Union for Civl Liberty (PUCL), Lok Satta ofAndra Pradesh etc have created awareness in Indians on the great corruption, injustice, looting etc going on at the hands of anti-social elements, many politicians, businesses etc and the extreme poverty of about 800 million Indians. Additional efforts to inform, educate and enlighten the public is needed. I hope these will come up by the many NGOs, civil society organisations, eminent personalities etc well before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
I request every informed and patriotic Indian to make a new personal campaign to inform and educate a few relatives, friends and acquaintances, about the very bad socio-economic situation in India and the need for serious changes. They should be informed that effective decentralisation thru the efficient implementation of Panchayati Raj can help India’s comprehensive, equitable and fast socio-economic development very much. They should also be informed of the very urgent need for well qualified and dedicated MPs in Indian parliament.
I hereby request suggestions from all readers. I shall update this blog with the first 100 suggestions supported at least by three readers of this blog.
