Chicken in vegetarian roll, airline in a soup
Onkar Shukla, a resident of Delhi,
was returning with his father from Mumbai last week on a GoAir flight G8-375
when he asked for a vegetarian roll for dinner. While the wrapping had a 'veg'
mark, Shukla soon realized the package contained a chicken roll. A staunch
vegetarian, he had already consumed about half the roll by then.
"After the flight took off, I ordered a veg roll, a product of Cafe Coffee
Day, and juice. Before eating, I checked my pack to confirm if it was veg and
saw 'VEG' written clearly on the cover. However, while eating I found its taste
unfamiliar and when I checked again, I found meat pieces in it. We are staunch
Hindu brahmins and it was very shocking," said Shukla.
Shukla then demanded the crew accept a written complaint but alleged they did
not cooperate. "I wanted the crew or captain to at least verify that I had
a meat roll so that I would be able to take action against the food packaging
company but they refused to do so. Finally, after landing, I asked to meet the
captain and was told to wait in the aircraft till all other passengers
left," said Shukla.
However, Shukla alleged that once all the passengers had left the plane, seven
security men entered the cabin and very rudely asked Shukla and his father to
leave the aircraft immediately. Later, Shukla filed a complaint with the
airport manager.
While sources in GoAir claimed Shukla had been extremely angry and there was no
way the crew was able to pacify him, the official spokesperson said:
"GoAir will as a precautionary measure, undertake sampling of meals.
Additionally, Cafe Coffee Day will be requested to doubly ensure packaging and
sampling at their end prior to delivery to GoAir."
The spokesperson also added: "The Captain was flying at that point in time
and post landing had immediate procedural responsibilities to complete. The
passenger was thus guided towards our airport manager who he cannot deny helped
him in every possible manner."
