Tata Nano Review/Critique

I have recently purchased a Tata Nano car about six months back. I was a bit excited bout the car as everybody else on purchases of their new car. Wherever I took the car people would gather around the car and started peeping inside the car to have a close look of its interior. I admire the work done by the Tata Company in creating the “chota hathi”.

Even though the company managed to make the rupees one lakh car it faced problems in setting up the production plant. Due to the delay in production people were a little upset, and many had to buy a variant car other than nano, affecting its market.

The company has created such an image about the car that where ever u take car people would recognize it as the one lakh car. Even though you might have bought the top model which costs approx 2.30 laks on road people will say it costs only one lakh. But when you tell them the original price at which u bought the car, they will advise you back that it would be better if you would have bought a Maruti 800 or an Alto. People won’t mind spending one lakh more rupes in getting the better performance and a safe car.

The Company had promised a mileage of 23Kmpl and the car fulfills it too. The mileage of my car on High way is approx 25.5Kmpl and 22Kmpl in City, if the A/C is on then it gives around 20-21Kmpl in city.

Anybody concerned about the safety will not be interested in buying a Nano as there were many cases where the nano engine got blast and the car caught fire. They would prefer the option of buying the Maruti car instead of nano. I was happy when I bought the car but now even I too don’t feel much happy about it as I think I should have bought another car then the nano.

The problems in a nano car

1) The engine is liquid cool but has no radiator fan to cool it faster, resulting we can’t take it for a long drive (Sorry lovers not for you to take a long drive).

 2) Due to the above reason the engine gets heated fast and one has to make several stops in a long drive.

3) The body is made by aluminum sheet,(As per companies plan in cost reduction), and is very thin, due to which if someone takes a body support on the car it can get bent i.e leaving a dent in the car.

4) The engine installed in the car is of Tata ace and people feel like they are riding in a “-CHAGADA” (a basic mode of transport in Gujarat).

5) When you start the A/C in the car it gives jerks not once but many times during the ride. The engine power gets much suppressed when the A/C is turned on.

6) The suspension is very hard and makes it difficult to ride the car off road.

The electronic fuel gauge in the car keeps cheating on me regarding the fuel level in the car. Even if the fuel tank is full the indicator sometimes won’t show it as full. Sometimes when the fuel is less than half tank then the fuel gauge will show that you are out of fuel. The company should also have installed an engine heat indicator to know the heat level of the engine.

The car is still desired by the thousands of people who are looking forward to buy it. If the company finds the way to solve the problem of overheating then it would be more grateful for them.
