A team member who once happened to be an average,

Dear Team member,

You may not possibly know the happiness that I experienced yesterday after evaluating your improvement in skills, performance and contribution. Let me try to elaborate the journey and explain how much the career growth of our team members means to me. It does.

I still remember the day when you were referred by your friend couple of years ago. After interviewing, I was convinced that you did not possess the skills and abilities to contribute; however, at the same time I was convinced about your sincerity and that you were committed for long term. I took some time to decide if you really can be part of our organization and although I wasn't completely convinced, I decided to make you part of eStomi.

Two years down the line, you only made me repent on my decision of trusting you and giving you an opportunity presuming that you would pick up the skills and contribute in short time. You seemed to be an incorrigible poor performer. I nevertheless trusted you and knew that some day, you'll start contributing. I tried to convey the message that I wasn't happy with your performance, contributions, learning curve or for that matter, any kind of improvement.

I remember talking to you beginning of this year and explaining the importance of goals and how you were wasting not only the organization's time/efforts/money but yours as well. I was glad when you came and admitted to me that you were not able to even plan a goal/objectives and asked me to explain the process of planning and executing.

I saw a sudden change from the next day. You started coming early and learning how most of the critical activities were getting planned to be executed for that day and week. I also was amazed to see you taking up to help the new comers learn the technology and giving them appropriate assignments. I experienced that you were able to now take complete accountability towards couple of customers and would implement the changes without depending on other team members. Then came the NGO assignment where in you jumped to sync up with them, understand the details, sort out issues remotely with loads of patience and deploy the solution on time.

I wanted to know your progress by evaluating how much you have been able to understand one of most complex ITSM implementations done by us. I was pleasantly surprised when you were able to explain the nuances, design and features as if you had implemented it. It reflected on the efforts and persistence that you had put in to know every aspect of it. You now also have been able to implement complex customizations within reasonable amount of time and seem to be ready to take up the next level of challenges.

I am glad that I now have one more team member who can truly contribute towards taking our organization to the next level. I am happy that I have found one more person who I can teach/mentor on next level of technical, consulting and domain skills.

Sincerely,

One of your team members who hasn't stopped smiling since yesterday:-)
