Nothing eligible about a groom who views marriage as a means to make money.
Dowry menace is prevalent among the Rich, well educated and high profile people in society too. A few crores of rupees, partnership in family business are just a few requests which they feel they have a right to ask. They view marriage as a source of regular income and feel no remorse in demanding the moon from the bride and her family.
Sadly the archaic society view an unwed or divorced daughter is a bruden or symbol of a doomed life and this prevents parents from supporting their child. Girls are told to adjust and compromise. Nobody realises that only if one is in a happy marriage are you blessed. Otherwise you are better off single. Ill-treatement at the first instance should not be given priority, happiness should. Girls should learn to stand up for themselves, work towards being financially independent.
Girls need to realise there is nothing eligible about a groom who views marriage as a means to make money.Take Action
> Section 498 (a) of the Indian Penal Code states that a woman can take legal action against her husband and in-laws for dowry harassment.
> Approach your area police, women's protection cell or even the Human Rights Commission and file a written complaint against the accused. Based on this inquiry, the police will then produce a chargesheet against the perpetrators under section 498 (a).
> The law will safeguard a woman's interests and protects her from further torture. Only if the women files a written complaint with the police will they conduct an inquiry.
Remember, the woman does not need any proof. Her word is enough.
Say 'NO' to dowry.
