Social Aspects of Poverty

Research Scholar and CMA
"Poverty is a threat to peace"

Gaps between the have and have not is widening day by day. i.e. poor is becoming more poor and rich is getting richer.

World's income distribution gives a very telling story. Out of Rs. 100; Rs. 94 goes to 40 people. This means each person gets Rs. 2.35. There is another section of society in which Rs. 6 goes to 60 people i.e. 10 paise each.

It's very clear from the above said that --

Richer section gets Rs. 2.35 against 10 paise for their weaker counterparts.

A hungry man can go to any extreme. Poverty is the absence of all human rights. The frustrations, hostility and anger generated by abject poverty can not sustain peace in any society. For building stable peace we must find ways to provide opportunities for people to live decent lives.

According to Planning Commission GOI during the year 1999-2000, there were 10.20 lakh families in rural areas and 4.29 lakh families in urban areas living below the poverty line in Punjab.

We have decided to put curtains on this bad name called as "Poverty". For this a movement has already been started in the form of Micro-credit, Micro-saving and Micro-insurance. This can commonly be said as Micrifinance.

Let us pledge together to fight against this common enemy and put the poverty in Museums.

I'll appreciate any body's contribution in terms of information or field work or otherwise.
