Small Need Big Deed: Rural Marketing

Student of MBA

Marketing in Rural areas having a vast scope for companies now a days. The earning of a common village person is basically on daily basis. They purchase household things on daily basis (like 1Kg. wheat flour, 1Kg. rice, 1 sachet of shampoo and some thing more), there need is big but they can’t spend more on that because of less income.

A big problem in rural areas is distribution network. It is very easy to make plans on paper but difficult to implement them on practical. Making a new distribution channel for rural area is so expensive, because of huge area. Some villages are so far away from the main city & they don’t even have the road facility. In villages there is a Bazar or Haat system (it is one day market in a week, which is organise by few villages near a popular area. The shopkeeper sold day today house-hold commodities there, like vegetables, fruits, fabrics, cloths etc.). people use to shop there for the whole week.

This bazaar could be a place for the companies to know the buying habits of rural customers, because commonly the basic need is same but still, buying habit can be change according to the geographical conditions. Companies can make their plans according to that only.

In my next blog I would like to discuss a live project done by an institute to cater the rural market.
