Racism on Internet

Freelance CE

So, all of us thought that racism was over as India is going places these days, that the world has become a very small place and that all of us have a very close relative working either in California or in London. We felt that racism was limited only to the likes of Joseph Conrad who wrote blatantly in one of his books that Africa was a ‘dark continent’.

But Is It True That Racism Is Over?

Alright! The world has become a smaller place and we can connect to anybody in the world within seconds via Internet. But all we are on the same footage? I personally felt that after Independence a country becomes really independent and now it is not in the hold of any other country (not even psychologically). That we all are same in the world, be it an African, American, Indian or English.

But this is not the reality. Just go to any chatting sites on Internet and tell the folks there (who are American/English) that you are an Indian. They will condemn you like anything saying that Indians are backward and that it was English people who taught them the ‘right’ ways of living, educated them, and taught them manners. And the ugliest part of all this is that you will not hear this from 80/90-year olds but from the mouth of 18/25-year olds. As the hierarchy goes from stronger to weaker, so goes the mindset of western world from older to younger generation. Although the nations have become independent now but the rigid and superiority complex-inflected minds of the westerners do not allow them to see the world on a par with them.

In such a scenario, to feel that racism is getting over is wrong. Racism is spreading its wings via Internet.
