A letter to Mr. Pritish Nandy
Hello Mr. Nandy,
This letter is regards with the article you written in the Mumbai Mirror 7th March 2012. I was filled with remorse after the reading what you had to say, not for the beggar but for you. I touched how much affection you had for the poor and it got me thinking to do something about it. I think I need to look for this man and tell him Mr. Nandy would take care of you.
Since you felt these brutes wronged him openly on the “pavement of CST” I wonder did you know this man and can you vouch for he being innocent?
Let me tell you something about people living on the streets, since you live in a palace and is not accustomed to these kinds of people. I will not say they all this way but I can wager you a good sum that most of them would not think twice to rob anyone and leave them for dead if they could.
I knew an old lady whose husband passed away not leaving her with a source of income but a little savings. she once brought a shop near a slum area because she could not afford one near a palace like yours. She hoped to run a small business once she collected more money. During the time it was closed the slums “people living on the road” like the poor man you talked of. Robbed and kept robbing her water pipes connecting to the shop, her water supply, her electric supply etc.
She leased it out after many reluctant tenants refused to take the shop and the shop gave her only misery not because it was a bad investment, but because of the people on the streets who ruined the foot paths with their Feces and the drug addicts that roamed the streets at night.
Please don’t stop police men from doing their job. If you talk about people begging on the streets because of circumstances and compulsions, if you care so much for them, you have an option to take care of them, which I am sure you are financially capable of doing.
I had to look up on the internet about you; I heard your name many times on television and read it sometimes in the news papers, but was not bothered to know what you do. I was too busy trying to make a living my shoving myself in the local trains getting to work.

I didn’t know you are a politician; it seems you have a lot of time doing so many things “poet, painter, journalist, politician, media and television personality, animal activist and film producer.” . I think it’s now time you added another identity to your luscious profile. Mr. Pritish Nandy protector of the Mumbai beggars”
