Civil disturbances in India

Associate Medical Superintendent
India is being troubled by civil disturbances throughout India since the time of partition.
The ramification of these civil disturbance includes the following:
1. Existing discriminatory practices in India based on caste, religion, and statehood.
2. Lack of justice for high-level politicians instigating violence on the basis of discrimination of caste or religion.
3. Biased newspaper coverage which is instigating the violence.

Readings of the famous late sociologist DD Kosambi on the origin of the caste system, Aryan religion, etc. will throw more light on the roots of these problems.

The social issues facing the country include Corruption, Gender discrimination (of women and the girl child), human traficking of women and children (from Nepal, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar), harassment of minorities in Communal government-ruled states.

Conversion by minorities is being made an issue since a very long time in India. It should be noted that religious practice is a matter of personal choice. To protect this personal choice, adequate legislation has to be enacted to ensure that individuals are not made to declare their caste, religion, etc --------in their schools, panchayats----------when they do not wish to utilize their status.

Minorities are being accused of conversion on the basis of inducements. These debates will be counter-productive when visualized from a global viewpoint.
A Debate has to be initiated in India about basic issues.

As a counter-debate, It is to be noted that Hindu missionaries are also converting Europeans and Americans on the global scene ---on the inducements of Yoga (ISKON) free food, alternative sexuality (Osho) etc.--------and there is no hue and cry in USA, Europe and the Middle East.

It is the duty of the Government to protect its citizens from poverty, and discrimination.
