MNCs : Saviours Or Saboteurs

MNC's or Multinational Corporation are private companies that works in more than one coutry. They also produce and provide products of highest quality and according to the latest global norms. They also uses the best human resources in the country and thus build a brand immage, stable and above all saleable products.

In india MNCs arrived in 60's of last century with the advent of Colgate Palmolive and Coca Cola.If i am not wrong they are the most trusted at that time. And many others drugs company also came along with them. They established themselves deeply into Indian markets as the population demanded more medice at that time. Our economy remains mixed at that time and the Indian government look at the MNCs in suspicion. The MNC concept was not born at that time. The Japanese also just started their marathon in the field of consumer electronics.

During the 70's the relation between India and USA were in lowest ebb.Company like Coca Cola were sent back. Then came the Japanese with highly efficient ,cheap, determined and techno savy products. They introduced silicon age and the semiconductor revolution just started.Radio,TV,telephone etc are in vogue in Indian market.Music got a new meaning with the Japanese majors like Sony,Mitsushita and Sharp introduced high fidelity stereo system.

During the end of 70's the stage was set for MNCs to populate the Indian market. The stage was reset in the end of 80's by ICs ,drugs to fight heart attack and so on.Most MNCs entered the Indian market in the early 90's.The Government greeted them with a better policy and with new economic eforms.Several MNCs established their factories and office in urban India.Sales sored up amnd FMCGs become the hot property on the TV shows and advertisement. The rest of the work was done by cable tv networks and internet.

Naturally a nation with a population of more than a billion had to
given to these new products, services and gizmo's.And MNCs filled up the void that was left by Indian manufacturers.

It took several years and billion of dollars to the make the products and services instant success .The free market economy of India has made the task of MNCs quite easier.
The MNCs has realise the fact that India will some day become a free market and so they began to established them physically and psychologically. They have become a part of our culture quietly and steadily. Thus they are seen as saviours in many front like heavy engineering,IT, medical diagnostics equipment, chemicals, rubber products, aircraft and electronic gadgets.New technologies and devices have put India into the path of ultimate progress.

But some economist and politician think the other way even I also
joined their school of thought.MNCs in some cases are seen like
saboteur.Like they didn't give jobs to the poor masses. They brought human resources either from abroad or from A grade India Institutions.Talented professional of India are just 2-3 percent of the total population. They work for MNCs and after short assignment they leave Indian shores forever.Further the products and services are no longer cheaper. And thus day by day cost are raising.

Nowadays MNCs are also being allowed to enter those sectors which was once reserved for Indian firm.Ironically MNCs will do much better in those areas too because of their better policies and infrastructure and thus putting our own coin under shade.

Banking, car production and telecommunication services are some of the fields in which they will out performed Indian firms.

Finally every MNCs comes to India to earn money. In a free market system any amount can be transferred by MNC to its parent country. This would lead to drain foreign exxchange reserves. We cannot check this capital outflow.Had our own enterprises were upto the task we would not have threats of this kind.We import jeans, shirts and electronic gadgets whereas we can manufacture tese product much cheaper. Our quality control norms are poor and so customers are swayed by the quality of products and services of MNC.

We can conclude by stating that we need MNCs as we are a part of global trading culture. We should also import technologies through them but we should manufacture products in India.MNCs should not be viewed as saboteurs. But they must not be allowed to control the destiny of a nation.
